Close or reopen a Work Order

Before you begin

Closing a Work Order requires the Close Work Orders permission; reopening a closed Work Order requires the Reopen Work Orders permission. See Work Order permissions for details. A Work Order can only be closed once every job on it has reached a closable status — see Work Order closure requirements if you want to understand that check before you start.

Close a Work Order

  1. Open the Work Order and locate the actions rail on the right side of the screen.

  2. Select Close Work Order at the bottom of the actions rail.

  3. If any jobs on the Work Order are not yet closable, a dialog lists them by line number, description, and status instead of letting you proceed — resolve those jobs first (see Close or reopen a job) and select Close Work Order again.

  4. In the Close Work Order dialog, confirm or update the Close Date.

  5. Select Close.

The Work Order's status updates to Closed, and a "Work Order Closed" confirmation appears.

Reopen a Work Order

  1. Open the closed Work Order and locate the actions rail on the right side of the screen.

  2. Select Re-Open Work Order at the bottom of the actions rail, where Close Work Order appeared before the Work Order was closed.

  3. In the confirmation dialog, select Re-Open.

The Work Order's status updates to Open, and a "Work Order Re-Opened" confirmation appears. Unlike closing, reopening has no prerequisite check — only the Reopen Work Orders permission is required.

If your organization uses the Ready for Review worklist, Work Orders whose jobs are all complete but haven't auto-closed collect there for a reviewer to close in bulk; the Close action on that screen works the same way described above. See Work Order closure requirements for how that fits together.

If this step fails

If the Work Order won't close, or the Close option isn't available, see Work Order won't close.
