Asset Class Custom Fields Tab

This section is accessible via the main menu path

Assets>Class>Click into Class Line>Custom Fields

This tab lists the custom fields assigned to the class. Every asset assigned to this class gets these fields in the Class Custom Fields panel of its Custom Fields tab, so you can track information that is unique to one type of asset. A class can hold up to 999 custom fields; a field is removed from the class with the trashcan icon next to it.

Fields are selected, not created, here. The Description dropdown only offers fields that already exist in the Custom Fields Master List (Assets > Settings > Custom Fields) and are not disabled or already on this class. To create a brand-new field, add it to the master list first. Refer to Custom Fields Settings.

Adding a New Custom Field

  1. Click the (plus) New Field box that is located in the list window.

  2. In the Description dropdown, select the field to add to this class.

  3. Review the field options - Type, Field Length, Required, Disable and Drop Down - and adjust them for this class if needed. If Drop Down is checked, add the values allowed for this class.

  4. Click Save.

  5. The newly added field now displays in the list and is added to the Class Custom Fields panel of every asset assigned to this class.

Not seeing the field on the asset? Check, in order:

  1. The field exists in the Custom Fields Master List (Assets > Settings > Custom Fields) and its Disable box is not checked. Creating the field there does not put it on any asset by itself.

  2. The asset is assigned to a class (Class Code on the asset header).

  3. The field has been added on that class’s Custom Fields tab (Assets > Class > open the class). Fields added to a class appear in the Class Custom Fields panel of every asset in the class; give it a moment and refresh the asset if it does not show right away.

  4. If the field is meant for this asset only, apply it in the Asset Custom Fields panel instead: choose it in Apply New and click the + sign.

Asset Specs are a different set of fields: their labels come from the class’s Asset Spec tab, not from the Custom Fields Master List.

The Asset Spec tab of the class file defines a separate set of fields - the Asset Specs labels shown on the asset - and is not related to custom fields. Refer to Asset Class Spec Tab
