Add a job and assign a technician

Before you begin

You need an open Work Order to add the job to — if you don't have one yet, create one first. You need the Add Jobs permission to add a job, and the Edit Work Orders permission to assign a technician to it. Fleet360 doesn't have a separate training or practice environment, so work through this scenario on a low-stakes real Work Order and vehicle rather than one your fleet depends on.

What you will accomplish

You'll add a job to an open Work Order and assign yourself, or a technician, to it.

Steps

  1. In the Work Order's workspace actions area, select Add Job. The Add Job panel opens with Manual selected.

  2. Select the Job VMRS code.

  3. Select the Repair Type.

  4. Select Add Job to save.

The job appears in the Jobs list, showing Unassigned for its technician.

  5. In the Jobs list, select the job's Unassigned chip.

The Edit Job panel opens with the Technicians section in view.

  6. Select Add Technician, then choose yourself or a sample technician from the list.

  7. Select Save Job.

The Jobs list now shows the technician's name in place of Unassigned.

What you just did

You created a job — the actual unit of repair work inside the Work Order — and assigned a technician to it. Labor and parts get posted against a specific job, not the Work Order as a whole, so the assignment you just made is what ties that upcoming work to a person for time and labor tracking. To see how a job moves from this state through to closed, see Job lifecycle.

Next steps

  • Add a job — the full set of job fields and options, including Outside Work and templates, for real Work Orders.

  • Assign technicians to a job — assigning more than one technician, setting priority, and removing or releasing a technician.

  • Post labor and parts to a job — continue this scenario by recording work against the job you just created.
