Asset Makes and Models
Fleet360 keeps a list of asset Makes (manufacturers) and, under each Make, its Models. There is no separate Make/Model maintenance screen: new makes and models are created directly from the Make and Model fields while you add or edit an asset, and the list is shared by every asset screen that uses those fields.
Where Makes and Models Are Used
Assets > + (Add Asset) – the Make and Model fields on the new asset form.
An existing asset > the header panel – edit the Make and Model fields in place.
The same Make/Model pick lists appear on the Work Order, Motor Pool, Request Service and Accident screens when an asset is created or edited from there.
Creating a New Make or Model
Click Assets from the menu and click + to add an asset (or open an existing asset and edit its header).
Click the Make field and start typing the make. Matching makes already on file appear in the list; pick one if it exists.
If the make is not on file, the first item in the list reads Create: MAKE. Click it to add the make and select it in one step.
Click the Model field (it is disabled until a Make is selected) and type the model. Pick an existing model, or click Create: MODEL to add it under the selected Make.
Continue filling in the asset and Save.
Makes and models are stored in UPPER CASE and are limited to 15 characters each; longer entries are cut off. Models belong to one Make, so the same model name under two makes is two separate entries. Any user who can add or edit an asset can create makes and models.
Look Up VIN
When you add an asset with Look Up VIN, the Make, Model and Year are filled from the VIN decode. If the decoded make or model is not on file yet, Fleet360 creates it automatically and shows the message “Make was not found in the database. Creating it now.”
Restricting Makes and Models to a List
Fleet360 does not currently offer a setting that limits Make and Model to a pre-built list; the Create option is always available in the Make and Model fields. If you used a make/model list restriction in a previous RTA product, note that it does not carry over to Fleet360.
Renaming or Deleting a Make or Model
Makes and models cannot be renamed, merged or deleted from the Fleet360 screens once created. If a make or model was created by mistake, create the correct one and change the affected assets to it; the unused entry stays in the pick list. Use the Asset Master List (add the Make and Model columns) to find assets using a given make or model.
