Put a unit back in service (return to Available)

How a unit returns to service depends on whether Automatic Vehicle Status Update is enabled for your company (see Vehicle Status Settings for where that setting lives).

Automatic Vehicle Status Update enabled

The Status field on the asset header and the Asset Status Search screen is read-only — nobody can change it directly, even with full access. The unit returns to service through the work order workflow:

  1. Close the open job(s) on the work order

  2. Close the work order

  3. Confirm the unit’s status changed to Available (asset header or Asset Status Search)

Which vehicle status the unit lands on when a work order closes is set by a rule on each work order status code, configured under Work Order Status Setup. If the unit stays out of service after the work order is closed, an administrator should check that the closing work order status’s rule is set to the Available vehicle status (and not “No Change” or another status).

Automatic Vehicle Status Update disabled

Two ways to return the unit:

  • Set Status directly on the asset header or the Asset Status Search screen — requires the update-asset-status permission

  • Close the job or work order — closing prompts you to pick the vehicle status to set on the unit
