Work Order won't close
You have tried to close a Work Order but cannot. The Close button is inactive, not visible, produces an error, or nothing happens after you click it.
If your system is configured to close on Work Order status change you will not see a Close button.
Resolve this
Work through these checks in order. Each step narrows down the most common causes.
1. Check that all jobs are closed
A Work Order cannot be closed while any of its jobs remain open.
Open the Work Order and review the Jobs tab.
Look for any job that shows a status of Open or In Progress.
For each open job: complete the work, post any remaining transactions, and close the job.
Once all jobs show Closed, try closing the Work Order again.
If you do not have permission to close individual jobs, ask the technician assigned to those jobs to close them, or contact your shop manager.
2. Check that you have the Close Work Orders permission
Only users with the Close Work Orders permission can close a Work Order. This permission is typically held by Admins, Shop Managers, and Lead Technicians.
If you do not see a Close option on the Work Order, or if clicking it produces a permission error:
Contact your system administrator.
Ask them to verify that your user account or user group has the Close Work Orders permission.
3. Check the Work Order status
The Work Order must be in an eligible status before it can be closed. If the Work Order shows a status that indicates it is not ready for closure — such as a custom pending or on-hold status your organization uses — resolve that status condition first.
If you are unsure which statuses allow closure at your organization, check with your administrator or review your Work Order status configuration.
4. If none of the above resolves the issue
If all jobs are closed, you have the Close Work Orders permission, and the status is not the cause, contact your administrator or submit a support request. Include the Work Order number and a description of what you observe when you try to close it.
