Manufacturer/Capper Data Records
Manufacturer data records are created when tires with unique combinations of tire manufacturer, size, and type are added to the system. Likewise, capper data records are created when tires with unique combinations of tire capper, size, and type are returned from the capper or when a tire is scrapped if a capper record doesn't already exist. The system stores and handles these records separately from the manufacturer and capper name records, which is why each has its own menu selection.
The RTA system tracks the total miles posted to each manufacturer or capper tire combination to give you an idea which tire is yielding the best results. The records contain such information as total miles, total costs, original miles and cost, lease rate, and warranted miles.
Adding a MFG or Capper Record
MFG Record
You're prompted to add a manufacturer data record each time a tire with a unique tire manufacturer/size/type combination is added to the system. Enter the estimated life miles (life expectancy/warranted miles) and the casing value for this tire. The warranted miles are used to calculate the pro-rated credit due, if any, from the manufacturer when this tire is dismounted.
Capper Record
You're prompted to add a capper data record each time a tire with a unique tire manufacturer/size/type combination is returned from the capper or scrapped from the system. Enter the estimated life miles for this capped tire. This information is used to calculate the pro-rated credit due, if any, from the capper when this tire is dismounted.
Viewing and Changing MFG or Capper Records
These data records are updated automatically as tire transactions are processed. Be careful when modifying the data in these records as several tire reports use this data. If data entry errors have occurred, the data record can be corrected here. However, it is best to make correcting entries where the errors occurred so corresponding reports will reflect the changes.
- Select Master > Tire > Manufacturer Codes > Manufacturer Record (MTCR) or Master > Tire > Capper Codes > Capper Record (MTPR) from the RTA main menu.
- Enter password level 1.
- Highlight the data record to view or change and choose Edit.
- Make the changes as needed.
- Choose OK to save the changes.
Manufacturer and Capper Record Field Descriptions
The fields in the manufacturer and capper records are essentially the same-one is based on the tire manufacturer, the other on the tire capper.
- Total Tires: This displays the total number of tires. It is updated as new tires are added to the system.
- Total Caps: This displays the number of times tires have been capped. It is updated when tires are returned from the capper.
- Total Scraps: This displays the total number of scrapped tires. It is updated when tires are scrapped.
- Original Units: This displays the total number of original tire miles (without caps). It is updated when tires (with a cap count of 0) are dismounted from vehicles.
- Capped Units: This displays the number of miles driven on tires that have been capped. It is updated when tires (with a cap count greater than 0) are dismounted from vehicles.
- Total Units: This displays the number of tire miles traveled (original and capped miles).
- Warranty Units: This displays the manufacturer's/capper's estimated tire life (for one tire). This figure comes from the entry made at the time the manufacturer/capper record was created. It is not updated by the system.
- Lease Rate: This displays the lease rate per mile (for one tire). This figure comes from the lease rate of the first tire added of this combination. It is not updated by the system.
- Running Units: This displays the number of tire miles traveled on tires that are currently mounted-since the tires were mounted. This figure excludes tire miles accumulated before the tire was mounted. For example, if a tire already has 20,000 miles on it and then gets mounted on a vehicle, and the vehicle travels 5,000 miles, the running miles would be 5,000. This figure is updated when end of period for tires is processed and when Cost by Manufacturer or Cost by Capper reports are generated (SET, RIM, RIC).
- Original Cost: This displays the total original cost of tires (without caps). It is updated as new tires are added to the system.
- Capped Cost: This displays the cost of tires that have been capped. It is updated as tires are returned from the capper.
- Repair Cost: This displays the repair costs for this tire. It is updated when repair costs are manually updated in the tire record (MTM, not work order repairs).
- Total Cost: This displays the total cost of tires (original, cap, and repair costs). It is updated as new tires are added to the system, existing tires are returned from the capper, and repair costs are manually entered in tire records (MTM).
- Casing Value: This displays the casing value (for one tire). This figure comes from the entry made at the time the manufacturer record was created. It is not updated by the system.
Deleting MFG or Capper Records
If you no longer will be purchasing tires from a particular manufacturer or using the services from a particular capper, you can delete the corresponding data record. Before doing this, you should wait until all tires (of that size and type) from that manufacturer or capper have been dismounted from your vehicles. Deleting these data records removes statistical information for reporting purposes.
- Select Master > Tire > Manufacturer Codes > Manufacturer Record (MTCR) or Master > Tire > Capper Codes > Capper Record (MTPR) from the RTA main menu.
- Enter password level 1.
- Highlight the data record to delete and choose Edit.
- Choose Delete.
- Choose Yes to confirm the deletion.
Configuring Tire Tread Class Records
In order for the Tire Tread reports to accurately reflect tire cost and tread usage, and to identify tires which are in need of replacement or recapping, you must first configure the appropriate tread depth parameters for each class of vehicle in your fleet.
- Select Master > Tire > Class Tread (MTT) from the RTA main menu.
- Press F2 and select a vehicle class from the list.
- Press F1 and select a tire position from the list.
- Click the ADD button.
- Specify the minimum and maximum tread depths allowed for a tire which is mounted in this position, on this class of vehicle.
